A window to the past takes its name from a line in Kevin Morby’s This Is a Photograph, a song about memory, presence, and the way images hold time. Photography has accompanied my life and travels for many years, offering a slower rhythm, greater care in what I choose to photograph, and an openness to the uncertainty that comes with shooting film. About fifteen years ago, I picked up my dad’s old film camera and never really stopped since. Shooting film asks me to slow down, to pay attention, and to choose carefully what is worth keeping. This space is an ongoing practice, a way of looking and learning, and a record of places, people, and moments as they pass. All of the photographs here are shot on film.

Most of this work is made with a Minolta CLE, a Hasselblad 500 C/M, or an Olympus XA, primarily using Kodak Portra 400 and Kodak Gold 200. Film is developed at Blue Moon Camera in Portland and more recently scanned at home.
